About 600,000 travellers, including 150,000 Britons, were left stranded, leading the British government to begin the largest peacetime repatriation effort in history.
The tour operator was still scrambling to secure an additional £200 million (roughly $US249 million USD) in emergency funding on Sunday. The effort was apparently unsuccessful.
Stranded passengers can find more information at the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s website, or its 24-hour hotline: 0300 303 2800 from the UK and Ireland, and +44 1753 330 330 from overseas.
